1 Thess 5:16 Rejoice always, v17 Pray without ceasing. v18 In every thing give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you. v19 Quench not the Holy Spirit v20 Do not despise prophecies. v21 Prove all things, hold fast to that which is good.
Beloved, Apostle Paul closes out his letter to the church at Thessalonica by giving them a series of short admonitions, or encouragement along with instruction, One of the short adomonitions seemed to be very important to him- do not quench the Holy Spirit. Any good blacksmith or welder can tell you about quenching the heat in metals, it is done with metals that have been heated to red or white hot. The way the metals are quenched will determine the future strength or brittleness of the steel. Quenching the Spirit leads to spiritual dullness, to the point saying no to the Holy Spirit becomes routine. Comfortzone and convenience take precedence over the urging of the Spirit. Quenching in the human realm takes many forms, including busyness and workaholism, smothering the Spirit with idols such as sports, foods, certain beverages, or anything that prevents us from stoking the fire. God wants to call us higher and higher in the kingdom as we go through life. As we go higher, the blessings are greater but the persecution also is great. However, for those who pursue the call, great is their reward in heaven. We invite you to partner with Gather the Outcasts as we take the fire of the Holy Spirit to the nations of Africa. We desire to be firestarters! Pray about your part in making a monthly recurring donation, or a one time generous offering. As you send we can go. May God bless you as you pray!
